Support and setup
How to add your playlist, and fixes for the things that actually go wrong. To install Virumo, see the install page.
01 · Setup
Add your playlist
Virumo plays the playlist you bring, from a provider you are entitled to use. Each guide takes a few minutes with the remote you already have.
Add an M3U playlist
- Open Setup, then M3U.
- Paste your playlist URL. Long-press the field to bring up the on-screen keyboard; the URL usually ends .m3u or .m3u8.
- Save. Virumo loads the channels, then the guide.
Add an Xtream login
- Open Setup, then Xtream.
- Enter the server as a host, or host:port if your provider gave you one. Leave HTTPS unticked unless your provider tells you otherwise.
- Enter your username, then your password. Both are encrypted on the device.
- Save. Live, films, series and the guide load from the panel.
02 · Troubleshooting
When something goes wrong
Buffering
Try a larger buffer first: in Settings, Connection, choose Minimal, Standard or Large to suit your connection. Use the speed tester in the app to see what your connection is actually delivering. Then check your provider's connection limit: Virumo uses one connection per stream it is playing, so another device or player still streaming will hold your slot. Ethernet beats Wi-Fi every time, and 4K over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi rarely works, whatever the player.
The guide is empty, or has no listings
Check the EPG (XMLTV) URL in Setup, or ask your provider for their XMLTV address. Xtream panels supply listings themselves, so for an Xtream login the guide comes from the panel. The guide refreshes when you open it, so give it a few seconds on the first load.
Login errors
Edit the playlist's login in place instead of deleting it: you can change the address, the user name or the password, and your favourites, history and Continue Watching are kept. A saved password stays hidden and is kept unless you type a new one. If a login still fails, check the details with your provider, and see the HTTPS note below.
HTTPS fails, or "secure connection failed"
Most Xtream panels only serve plain http, and some present certificates your device won't trust. Untick HTTPS and try again. Virumo tells you when a connection isn't secure rather than hiding it.
Rewind is unavailable on a channel
Live rewind needs a channel streamed as MPEG-TS. Channels delivered as HLS play normally, but can't be buffered for rewind yet, so Virumo shows a short notice instead of a control that does nothing.
Channels won't play
A channel that's off air or down at the provider fails the same way in every player. Check a second channel: if that plays, the problem is upstream. If nothing plays, re-check your playlist URL or Xtream login.
Only one stream will start in Multiview
Multiview is a Premium feature, and it shows up to four channels at once. Every tile needs a connection of its own from your provider, so Multiview is limited by how many connections your provider allows. If your provider permits only one connection, you can watch one channel at a time whatever the player does. Extra logins (also Premium) let you add more than one login from the same provider, and the app reads each login's connection limit itself. How many pictures play at once also depends on your TV or phone, and a tile that cannot start says why.
A padlock appears on an option
Locked options stay visible with a padlock, and the padlock opens the Premium page, which lists what Premium adds. Premium is planned as a one-off unlock code for your device. The Premium page on this site has the details, including what happens after a factory reset.
Prompts you may see in the free version
These are small things the app does, listed here so they are not a surprise.
These arrive in the next test builds.
- Startup card. On the free version the app shows a short card when it starts. It lasts about 3 seconds, you can skip it after 1 second, and it has an Unlock button. Premium does not show it.
- "Still watching?" After 2.5 hours of continuous live viewing, the free version pauses and asks. Premium does not.
- "Exit Virumo?" On a TV, pressing Exit asks before the app closes.
- Start on Live TV. On a TV, the app reopens on Live TV rather than on Settings or the Premium page.
03 · Questions
Straight answers.
Does Virumo include any channels?
No. Virumo is a player. It contains no channels, lists or links. You add a playlist or subscription that you're entitled to use.
Which playlist formats work?
M3U and M3U8 playlist links, and Xtream Codes logins (server, username, password). Programme guides load from XMLTV or from your Xtream panel.
Why did my Xtream server fail over HTTPS?
Most Xtream panels only serve plain http, and some use certificates your device won't trust. Leave the HTTPS option unticked unless your provider tells you otherwise. Virumo will tell you when a connection isn't secure.
Why doesn't rewind work on some channels?
Live rewind needs channels streamed as MPEG-TS. Channels delivered as HLS play normally but can't be buffered for rewind yet. Virumo shows a short notice on those channels instead of a control that does nothing.
Which devices can install it?
Android 7.1 (API 25) and later, and Fire OS 6 and later. Fire OS 5 devices cannot install it. Virumo is designed with low-memory Fire TV sticks in mind.
Does it cost anything?
The core player works without paying. Some features are Premium, and Premium is planned as a one-off unlock code for your device, with no subscription, no accounts and no sign-in. The Premium page lists what it adds.
What data does Virumo collect?
No personal data, and there is no account system. Your playlist and credentials stay on your device. The full statement is on the privacy page.
Some channels won't play. Is that Virumo?
Usually not: a channel that's off air or down at the provider fails the same way in every player. Virumo tells you when a stream can't be reached and lets you move on with one press.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. Virumo picks a touch layout on a phone or tablet and the remote-first layout on a TV or stick. Picture-in-picture and background play are Premium.
