Release notes

What's new.

These notes mirror the What's new card the app shows after an update. Virumo is in testing, so these are test builds, and there is no store listing yet.

Items marked Premium belong to the planned Premium unlock, which is not on sale yet. Newest first.

Latest test build (not yet released)

Version 0.9.34 · test build 60

  • Locked options in Settings now show a padlock and take you to Premium, and the Premium page lists what it adds.

Test build

Version 0.9.33.1 · test build 59

  • Fixed: the Backup & restore page in Settings drew its rows on top of one another. Everything else is as in 0.9.33.

Version 0.9.33 · test build 58

  • You can now edit a playlist's login in place (the address, the user name or the password) without deleting it and adding it again. A saved password stays hidden and is kept unless you type a new one.
  • Multiview: watch up to four channels at once in a 2 x 2 or 1 + 3 layout, with sound from one of them. How many pictures play at once depends on your TV or phone and on how many connections your logins allow; a tile that cannot start says why. Premium
  • A playlist can now use more than one login from the same provider. Add or remove the extra ones in Settings, under Your playlists, on the playlist's Logins page. The app reads each login's connection limit itself, so it never asks your provider for more streams than you are allowed. Premium
  • Keep playing in the background now works when you switch apps on a phone or tablet, as the setting says. Premium
  • On phones the bar is now Live, Guide, Films, Series and More, with every word always readable. More opens Search, Continue Watching, Multiview and Settings; Backup & restore is in Settings.
  • Returning to live after a rewind lands where it should, even on a slow connection.
  • Moving around with the remote is smoother and more predictable, and the controls keep your place when a channel briefly reconnects.
  • Known issue: a Multiview tile that could not start does not try again by itself. Pick its channel again to retry. This will be improved in the next version.

Test build

Version 0.9.32 · test build 57

  • Backup and restore, in Settings. It writes one encrypted file holding your playlist, favourites, watch history, Continue Watching and settings, protected by a passphrase you choose, and puts it all back on another device or after a reinstall.
  • On phones and tablets, one back gesture now leaves the player outright instead of two, there is a back arrow in the player's own controls, and the shading behind those controls reaches the edges of the screen rather than stopping short of them.
  • Picture-in-picture behaves. Closing the small window with its X stops playback instead of leaving it running, the window closes when a film ends, and it no longer appears after you have already stopped watching. Premium
  • Changing channel with UP and DOWN no longer raises the information panel or the progress bar, so you can keep moving through the list. Press OK when you want the controls.
  • A first-run walkthrough, which explains the remote on a television and the gestures on a phone or tablet. Skip it if you like; it can be replayed any time from Settings, Help.
  • Every button in the player's control row now shares one look, and the highlighted one is far easier to pick out from across a room.
  • Returning to live after a rewind now lands just inside the buffer instead of right at its edge, so it no longer freezes for several seconds. Settings, Connection also gains a Minimal buffer setting that starts quickly and keeps you close to live.
  • The quality readout now reports the sound your equipment is actually being sent, rather than the soundtrack that was chosen for it.

Test build

Version 0.9.31 · test build 56

  • Changing the theme now takes effect at once and no longer closes the app. The matching launcher icon changes the next time you leave the app or press Home; some TV home screens keep drawing the old icon until they are restarted.
  • Around the app: the collapsed navigation rail now shows the mark on its own instead of a clipped word, channel names and the programme beneath them share one left edge, and every field on the Setup screen can be reached with the remote again.
  • In the player: when you are behind the live edge, the time in the header and the time on the progress bar now agree, and rewind, fast-forward and play/pause on the remote work while the on-screen controls are open instead of doing nothing.
  • On the television, "Keep playing in the background" is now honoured once you switch it on: the sound carries on after you press Home. It is still off to begin with there. Premium
  • On phones and tablets, unlocking the screen lock leaves the controls on screen instead of hiding them again, and the crash on entering picture-in-picture is fixed. Premium
  • Settings, Connection has a new Refresh playlist button. It downloads your playlist again and re-files it in place, keeping your favourites, history and Continue Watching.
