Install

Install Virumo.

Virumo is a legal IPTV player: it contains no channels. Install it by sideloading, then bring your own playlist from a provider you are entitled to use.

01 · Read this first

Installed an earlier test build? Back up, then uninstall once.

The first release is signed with the final signing key. Android will not install a build signed with a different key over an existing one, so owners of earlier test installs must uninstall once.

  1. Back up first. In Settings, use Backup and restore to save your playlist, favourites and settings to an encrypted file. Keep the file somewhere other than the device you are about to wipe.
  2. Uninstall the earlier Virumo test build.
  3. Install the new build, using the guide for your device below.
  4. Restore your backup. A backup restored on another device does not carry the Premium unlock.

If you have never installed Virumo before, skip this section.

02 · Download

The file, and how to check it.

Downloads open at launch. Until then there is nothing to download, and any website offering a Virumo file is not us. When downloads open, the file, its SHA-256 and the short address for Downloader will be published here.

03 · Compatibility

What it installs on.

  • Android 7.1 (API 25) and later, on Android TV, Google TV, phones, tablets and foldables.
  • Fire OS 6 and later on Fire TV.
  • Fire OS 5 devices, the 2014 to 2016 sticks and boxes, cannot install it.

Designed with low-memory Fire TV sticks in mind.

04 · Fire TV

Install on Fire TV with Downloader.

These steps also have a page of their own: the Fire TV install guide.

  1. Install the Downloader app from the Amazon Appstore on your Fire TV.
  2. Open Settings, then My Fire TV, then Developer Options, and allow Downloader to install unknown apps. Older Fire OS versions have one switch called Apps from Unknown Sources instead.
  3. Open Downloader and enter the short address that will be published in the Download section when downloads open.
  4. Install, then open Virumo from Your Apps & Channels.
  5. Turn the setting back off. Return to Developer Options and switch the unknown-apps permission for Downloader (or Apps from Unknown Sources) off again.

05 · Android TV and Google TV

Install on Android TV or Google TV.

These steps also have a page of their own: the Android TV install guide.

  1. Open Settings, then Apps, then Security & restrictions, and turn on Unknown sources for the app you will install with, such as Downloader or a file manager.
  2. Use that app to fetch the file from the Download section once downloads open.
  3. If you are comfortable at a terminal, adb install with the downloaded file over your network does the same job. Turn USB or ADB debugging off again afterwards.
  4. Install, then open Virumo from the launcher's apps row.
  5. Turn Unknown sources back off for that app.

06 · Phones and tablets

Install on an Android phone or tablet.

  1. On the phone or tablet, open this page in your browser and download the file from the Download section once downloads open.
  2. Open the downloaded file. Android asks you to allow the app you downloaded it with, usually your browser, to install unknown apps. Allow it once.
  3. Install, then open Virumo.
  4. Turn the permission back off. In Settings, find the browser's entry under Install unknown apps and switch it off again.

Then add your own playlist: the support page shows how.

Only install a Virumo file from this page. If another site offers a Virumo download, do not install it.
